Mini Aussies are a healthy, vibrant breed, known for their beauty, charisma and athleticism. With an average lifespan of close to 15 years these dogs are a longer term commitment. Mini Aussies are the perfect size to snuggle on the couch, and also take with you anywhere you go. However the breed has developed a poor reputation that is it important to be aware of.

Generations of bad breeding have created "lines" of Australian shepherds that can be snappy, unfriendly and neurotic. Fundamentally Aussies are a herding breed and you need to know what that means if you are considering one for your family. It is crucial to only support breeders who care enough to put temperament and health above all else.
Modern MAS breeders are changing the scene by working to put pet quality above their herding linage. Many Aussies you find today will have very little to no problematic herding behaviors. However it is up to you as a consumer to do the homework on breeds and breeders to find a dog that is the right match for your lifestyle.

It is also important to understand that there are "working" and "pet/show" lines of MAS. know the difference and do not buy a working line Mini Aussie unless you intend to give him or her a real job.

Before settling on a puppy or breeder, make sure you know the difference between "drives." Would a low, medium, or high drive Aussie best fit your lifestyle? Make sure your breeder can talk to you about the potential drive type of your chosen puppy.

Mini Aussies are wonderful pets. But if you choose to bring one into your home you are committing to giving him or her the time and effort to make sure that puppy is trained and fulfilled in the way he or she needs according to their breed.
These dogs love to learn. They love to go on adventures and be with their people. Please do not commit to one of our puppies if you are not willing and able to give them what they need.
